Baggies value to sink Saints
Swansea was the right match at the right time for Sam Allardyce at Sunderland but the opposite is probably true of their visit to White Hart Lane. Mauricio Pochettino and his team will be looking to bounce back from a defeat by Leicester which put a dent in their top-four aspirations and the Black Cats could pay the penalty. Sunderland and Jermain Defoe were given a helping hand by the struggling Swans but can expect no such gifts from a Spurs said that have been built on the foundations of a solid back five. They are predictably short to win the game in 90 minutes but the odds against about a Spurs win to nil does take the eye despite evidence to the contrary. It's been seven games (all competitions) since Sunderland last failed to score on the road in a run that's taken in Man City, Chelsea, Arsenal (twice) and Everton while Spurs have only won twice to nil at home all season but their defense is the meanest in the division and the side has the ability to dominate a Sunderland side that could be left to feed off scraps. Every point and every game counts for Allardyce but they entertain Bournemouth next weekend and that will be a game that the canny escape artist will have targeted as a better chance of collecting three points. Amid that torrid run away, Sunderland lost 3-1 three times and 4-1 once and throwing a few pence at similar scorelines in favor of the Lilywhites (12/1 and 20/1) does not seem like the worst idea while Harry Kane is 7/2 to open the scoring and 10/3 to score at least twice (as he has done on three occasions this term). Spurs to have a busy week with trips to Leicester (FA Cup) and Palace to come squad rotation but should enable Pochettino and his side to keep on pushing and with that in mind, I'll play the handicap markets. I toyed with prices around 7/4 for Spurs -2 on the Asian Handicap (stakes refunded if they win by two goals, the profit if three +) but instead I'll snap up the evens on the handicap -1 (they are also evens to be winning at half-time and full-time incidentally). They've beaten Man City, Norwich, Villa and West Ham by two or more goals at White Hart Lane and I struggle to see why they should not add to that list Sunderland.
